What is AI Overview?
An AI Overview is Google's AI-generated summary shown in search results, synthesizing information from multiple sources into a single answer instead of — or above — a traditional list of links.
AI Overviews launched as part of Google's move toward generative search results and have since expanded to appear on a large share of Google searches across dozens of languages and countries. Google has also introduced AI Mode, a more conversational search experience, and has been progressively merging the two into one integrated experience.
For site owners, AI Overviews change what "ranking" means: a page can hold a strong traditional position and still be absent from — or present in — the AI Overview answering the same query, based on separate extractability and credibility signals rather than position alone.
