What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?
GEO is the practice of making content citation-ready for generative AI engines — structuring it so a model has a credible, factual, well-sourced reason to quote or reference a page when it synthesizes an answer.
GEO focuses on signals like citation readiness (short, self-contained, quotable statements), factual support (specific claims rather than generic assertions), original information, entity consistency (using the same brand or product name everywhere), and source credibility — rather than on ranking position.
A page can be strongly structured for Answer Engine Optimization and still fail GEO if it makes only generic claims nobody would bother sourcing — the two disciplines overlap but measure different things.
